A critical time for the Orioles: The trade deadline arrives later this month
O's have several players on existing contracts
The Orioles had an outstanding win on Sunday to take a series from the red-hot Tampa Bay Rays. They followed that up with an impressive win Monday night at Texas.
A chance to produce another win streak?
Not so much as they lost 10-2 Tuesday and 6-0 Wednesday at Texas. Kind of laid an egg scoring two runs on 12 hits. That is now five losses the last eight games and seven in the past 11.
The O’s are going the wrong way.
To get to 86 wins, they now need to go 49-27 the rest of the way. That is a win percentage of .645 which is a 104-win pace.
Per FanGraphs, as of yesterday, the O’s chance to make the playoffs was just 2.4 percent.
That win percentage seems too much to ask and is pushing the Orioles perhaps closer and closer to selling players who have expiring contracts.
That group includes Ryan O’Hearn, Zach Eflin, Charlie Morton, Tomo Sugano, Cedric Mullins, Gary Sanchez, Seranthony Dominguez and Gregory Soto.
