ABERDEEN, Md. - Just who is Nate George and how is he tearing up the Florida Complex League right now?

Lucky for Orioles fans, he is with the Orioles. This 19-year-old righty batter and outfielder was drafted out of the high school ranks last year in round 16. He is out of Minooka Community HS, in Minooka, Ill.

George had two more hits and drove in two runs yesterday for the FCL Orioles, who beat Boston to improve to 13-10 in rookie ball.

Over 21 games, George is batting .411/.476/.603/1.079 with a double, two triples, three homers and 14 RBIs. He’s added 11 steals in 17 tries and is said to have a plus arm in the outfield.

It took an overslot amount of $455,000 to sign him away from a college commitment last summer.

Yesterday, at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, I asked O’s director of player development Anthony Villa, about him.

“He’s a combination of speed and power. It’s been really fun to see him come on the scene out of high school and play aggressively without fear. He’s very good in the outfield also and is taking good at-bats. He’s been awesome. The speed is blazing speed. Some sub 4.0 times to first as a righty bat,” he said.

Are the O’s considering bumping George to Low-A Delmarva and full-season ball?
