Will the O's consider trading any pending free agents?
A couple of key O's players will be free agents at the end of the 2026 season
They were supposed to be a big part of leading the Orioles back to winning ways and helping them contend for the postseason this year.
But so far, the O’s are contenders only by math.
They began yesterday 4.5 games back of the final American League wild-card spot but were behind four other teams to get to the third wild-card team.
Even with their win over the Chicago Cubs on Thursday by 3-2 the Orioles are only 43-51 and have won just two of their past eight series, going 10-14 in those games.
Thursday’s win snapped a three-game losing streak.
So while the O’s hope and expectation was to be a deadline buyer, the best play for the team’s future may be to sell a couple of players.
Or at least consider moving pending free agents. Players that can walk at the end of this season anyway.
The O’s have four pending free agents but two of them are injured right now with little trade value in Chris Bassitt and Keegan Akin.
The other two would be attractive to contenders in outfielder Taylor Ward and lefty pitcher Trevor Rogers.
