Trade a couple pending free agents. Get Ryan Flaherty in here to manage. Retool this winter and then bring home a title in 26!!!! Just not 100% sure Elias is the right man to get that done...

Good trade, good value. I don't think they conceded anything. I think they realize chances for playoffs are extremely slim. They got a good offer and took it. More to come after all-star game and chances diminish even more. If they get other good offers, they should jump on them early rather then risk losing them. Start building for 2026.

Oh wow. I just saw they traded Baker. Three thoughts.

1) The sell off has begun. They have conceded

2) Trading Baker now is trading while his value is high. He’s been coming down to earth.

3) Traded him for a draft pick? Elias values drafts way too much. He’s better not choke with the pick.

Big value in draft picks and the economic clout created. More in this story on that. I think they did well in this deal. 4 picks in the first 37 and Gunnar was once picked ..... at No. 42.

Yeah, and how many pitchers have we drafted in the last decade in first or second rounds that never made it? From recent memory, DJ Stewart was a #1. Kjerstad was a 1/2 and Adley a 1/1 and I’m not sure they will amount to more than middling ball players.

I mean Adley has been an All-Star. Sure some miss but you would rather have or not Westburg, Cowser, Gunnar, Grayson, Ced, Holliday, etc. The clout they have and flexibility to manuever is quite big in my opinion. Said a rival GM to MLB, they got a good return.

I’m not convinced Adley is a superstar level player. Lots of middling players can get to the All Star game. After the last year there are certainly questions and I don’t think there is any question he should not have been a 1/1. If you believe that Elias has some secret sauce of picking great players then your argument has weight. Frankly the second batch of drafts of those currently in the minors aren’t so special. I think that speaks against your argument. Blackjack players go on good streaks too. I don’t believe Elias has a secret sauce because there are no secrets between teams.

There isn't going to be a "sell off." This isn't 2018.

Correct. It’s a sell off of free agents. But I don’t they have a word for precisely what we’re doing. Perhaps retooling but I don’t think that’s precise either.
